Businesses take steps to reduce pollution

As more and more people have become focused on helping the environment and reducing pollution, more and more companies, including retail giants such as Walmart are doing their part to make a difference.
Employees at Walmart’s across the nation, including in the metro area, have converted to having eco-friendly vests as part of their uniform. The new vests make a clear statement about the company’s goal to be environmentally conscious as right on the back of each vest it says, “6 bottles recycled to make this vest.”
The company’s old vests will be recycled and according to the personnel manager Racheal from the Bellevue Supercenter Walmart, the old vests are supposed to become recycled into cloth bags and more. The new vests are also cheaper compared to the old vest.
“We wanted to start getting rid of all the plastic we have and start using them so that’s why we started wearing the new vests,” senior Leo Baltazar, who works at Walmart said.
Besides Walmart, shoe companies like Adidas and Nike have also come out with shoe lines made up of recycled material. Adidas partnered up with the company Parley.
Parley is a movement to try and reduce plastic or trash found in the ocean. The shoes are made of plastic found in ocean life that most people don’t find useful or resourceful according to Parley’s website. Another company that helps in plastic reduction is Aldi.
Aldi is a supermarket company that doesn’t use plastic bags. Instead, customers are required to bring their own grocery bags or use the cardboard boxes that they have.
