It was in Greece during its Golden Age (500-300 BC) that barbering became a highly developed art.
Freshman Jefferson Lopez-Gonzales never thought of being a barber until about two years ago.
“I told my family, and they supported me,” Lopez-Gonzalez said.
Freshman Fernando Penaloza-Zavala’s journey into barbering began as a hobby.
“I didn’t really find it as a interest, more of a hobby, until I took it seriously a year ago,” Penaloza-Zavala said.
Penaloza-Zavala and Lopez-Gonzales’ barbering journeys began form there.
“I did my first haircut a low tapered on my brother about a year ago,” Lopez-Gonzalez said. “I like it, so I kept going.”
Penaloza-Zavala learned early on what it’s like to work hard.
“I learned from videos online and a lot of practice,” Penaloza-Zavala said.
Looking ahead, Lopez-Gonzalez hopes to expand his workshop from his garage to a barbershop.
“I’m planning to keep going, branch out, have my own barbershop, continue to work with my clients and make money,” Lopez-Gonzalez said.
Penaloza-Zavala is also looking forward to expanding.
“I want to have a barbershop and to keep all of my ciliates.”
Lopez-Gonzalez has several goals.
“I just want to keep going ’til I make it,” Lopez-Gonzalez said.
