After head of security Lee Jones resigned from OPS, former staff member Ryan Katt was appointed to the position.
Back in 2015, Katt was offered two security positions: one at Bryan and one at South.
“My friend said, ‘Bryan’s got a lot less stairs than South,’” Katt said. “When I first started (at Bryan), there were 1,900 kids, and there were only four security guards.”
As of 2024 there was 1,634 students enrolled and seven security guards.
Security guard Bradshaw feels Katt was a good match for the position.
“I thought it fit because he’s been here,” Bradshaw said. “He understands the atmosphere that he was stepping into.”
Activities Director James Cunningham feels Katt is good at his job.
“The building culture is the only thing that hasn’t changed,” Cunningham said. “He can adapt and adjust pretty quick.”
Katt enjoyed his warm welcome to the building.
“Everybody was super welcoming to me,” Katt said. “Right when I started, I didn’t know a single soul in this building.”
Bradshaw enjoys working with Katt because of his one-of-a-kind personality.
“He’s his own unique character,” Bradshaw said. “He connects with students we can’t connect with, as well as kids that we (already) do.”
Katt tries to connect with students as much as possible, without making them uncomfortable.
“I just try to be myself,” Katt said. “I try to just let kids approach me and not be too pushy.”
Cunningham feels Katt works well with the security team.
“One reason why they work so good as a team is they all can think critically,” Cunningham said.
Bradshaw feels it’s a good thing that they have another security guard.
“An extra body, extra mind, more creativity,” Bradshaw said. “He’s great conversation, easy to work with and has a good sense of humor.”
Katt believes that he is a chipper person.
“Just everybody being safe,” Katt said. “Everybody getting along, that makes me happy. I like to bring humor to situations”
