Taylor Swift did it again, adding another rerecord to her list. This time it’s ‘1989’. Hearing for the first time I was disappointed, after giving it another chance, I was still underwhelmed.
Being a fan of Swift for years, it has some ups and downs. When the original album was released in 2014, it instantly made the charts. Fast forward 11 years later and Swift is one of the most influential artists of the century.
Giving the rerecord a listen for the first time, it didn’t really sound like Swift at all. It sounds very KidzBop and very immature. I had to put it down after only listening to three songs.
After a week and watching the album reach its place on the Billboard 100, I decided to give it another listen, with the intention of giving it a higher rating. I shut out other social media sites that would have influenced my decision.
Unlike Swift’s previous rerecords and the lengthy addition of ‘All Too Well’ on ‘Red’, this album didn’t stick out to me. This new record gave fans six new vault songs Swift had previously written; personally, I love the vault songs compared to the original track list on the album.
Overall, I would give the album 3/5 stars. The only thing I wish Swift would do is have a little more emotion through the new records. I didn’t hear it at all in this album, I wish she gave the fans more. This album didn’t live up to my expectations, I hope she steps up with the next rerecord.
