The Latino Leaders club continues to make its mark in the school by promoting culture and leadership across campus in different ways. The organization, sponsored by bilingual liaison Christian Mendo, provides students with a space to connect, share their experiences and take pride in their identity while developing skills as young leaders.
Latino Leaders plays an active role in school life, organizing cultural events, supporting school activities and volunteering within the community to promote inclusion and engagement.
“I think the Latino Leaders benefits the school in a good way by pushing students to do their best and also just represent the Hispanic community in a good way,” said junior Edgar Reynoso. “They helped my friend with his attendance and he’s doing better with their help.”
During this year’s Halloween Boo Bash, the club created a “Coco” themed set-up featuring colorful decorations and a thoughtful nod to latino culture, turning the celebration into a memorable showcase of heritage.
“The club helps make the school more inclusive by showing students that everyone belongs and can be a leader,” said Mendo. “We’re like a big family that works hard but also has fun.”
The group also participated in parent-teacher conferences, welcoming families with a table filled with traditional Hispanic treats that reflected the warmth and hospitality central to Latino culture. These efforts illustrate how the club extends beyond events, fostering a stronger sense of community among students and staff.
Senior Allison Hernandez said the club is growing at the moment, but that they’d like it to grow even more. Students don’t have to be latino to join, they just need a open mindset and are willing to participate.
Latino Leaders is open to all students interested in learning, leading and contributing. The club continues to build strength among students around school. They also serve as a group where students work hard, support each other, and celebrate their culture.
