Crafter’s delight: spring craft fair revived

While it will be the thirty-first craft fair, the school will host its first spring craft fair in over 10 years on April 13. It will run from 9 a.m. to p.m. and admission for the event will be $2

The fair is slated to have over 120 venders with a total of 170 tables filling the hallways, commons and gymnasium. From quilts, jewelry and bows to gourmet caramel apples and beef jerky, there will be something for everyone.

I’m looking forward to seeing how large of a crowd that’s going to come, how many of the community will be here and hopefully that they’re going to be supporting us,” craft fair coordinator Nanette Varley said. “We have the vendors now we just need the customers.

While the fall craft fairs have been hosted by the music department, Latino Leaders and the drama department, this event will be run by FFA, TDL and the schools cheer and dance teams. The groups will divide all profits which will come from the $50 vendor fee and admission fees.

We are going to split the proceeds four ways,” Mary Miller, curriculum specialist said, and so with that I know for Urban Ag., that will help cover some of the FFA chapter dues that we typically ask students to pay for themselves and we’re going to use some of this money to help with that. With TDL we go on a couple of trips, extended learning trips each year, that typically cost money and we plan on using that [funding] for those.

The cheer and dance teams are looking forward to the opportunity as well.

“The dancers have to pay to be on the dance team and it’s about $1,000 to join the dance team to pay for uniforms and dance camp and anything the need throughout the seasonso if I’m able to get money from the craft fair fundraiser then that helps with some of the costs,” Sugar Bears dance coach Bryttney Gullie said.
